I don't believe in writing negative reviews unless you have tried a place twice. People have bad days, you might have been having one too and take things the wrong way. Whatever the reasons, misunderstandings do happen. The fact of the matter is though that I have been at this fishmonger's twice and both times I had a really bad experience, with the staff being extremely rude. Today, I asked the man on the counter if he could clean the squid I wanted to buy. Mind you, if he had said no it would have been absolutely fine. He raised his voice as he proceeded to clean the squid, while being visibly aggressive he told me that I would have to pay a different price for it if it was cleaned. When I asked him what that price was, as I didn't want to be charged 5 pounds for a simple cleaning, he proceeded to shout at me that the difference would be only 10 pence and not to make a fuss about it. This being the second time I had been shouted at that store and quite honestly feeling uncomfortable, I asked him why he was shouting at me, only for him to deny it and then continue to shout. At that point, I just left the store. I honestly am dumbfounded about this treatment, especially since I had overheard the same man being extremely nice to the man shopping before me and I read the reviews on this place that seem to be so positive. I honestly do not understand it. Was it the fact that I am a woman, that looks younger than her age, the fact I have an accent, something else entirely? No idea. I still think it is important for bad behaviour to be called out for. Hence the review.

Drove for 1hour 30mins just to get here and as always it was well worth it. I've been going here now for 20years plus and everytime the service has been 10 out of 10 and the seafood amazing.
Its so so friendly and my kids just love the place. Eddie and his family are always smiling because they absolutely love what they do with a passion.
I am not joking when i say its by far the best place in Edinburgh to get fresh fresh seafood. The price is good the service is good and the seafood is good. If you love seafood then this is the place to get it from. ?

The quality of all fish is excellent. Lobster just taken out of the fish tank was very fresh and tastes good enough to be boiled in salt. The salmon for sashimi was better
and cheaper than that of waitrose.

The only regret js that there was no « toro »

カニやロブスターも活きたものをその場でしめてくれるし、魚もイカも注文時に下処理をお願いできる。
事前にお願いすれば、ここにない魚も注文できるようだ。

オーナーと思われる女性は魚に関する知識が非常に豊富で、他の店員にどのように魚を取り扱うべきか適切な指示を与えているのも大変好感がもてる。

鮮魚の質はどれもとても高く、値段以上。
エジンバラで最も良い魚屋さん。

Eddie's is the standard for the freshest seafood in Edinburgh at fair prices. Have certified sushi and live lobsters. Lovely fresh fish and a joy to shop.

Frequently go to Eddie for seafood. Excellent service and quality of seafood.
Today, they recommended me for a stone bass.
Got the head and body for 1KG.
Steamed the stone bass and it’s excellent. Great taste.
I cooked the fish head with kimchi, leek and tofu. Perfect dish for my friends.

This was my first but not my last visit to Eddies. I was very impressed by the display particularly the live lobster tank. I cannot think of another fishmonger in Edinburgh with one. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. First Class Business All Round.

'YOU TOUCH, YOU BUY!'

This is what a female member of the staff told me today when I lifted a bag of mussels to check for broken ones. I was clearly irritated by her tone and attitude, but didn't cause a scene in front of other customers. It's not like I touched on fish filets or anything else that would have been consumed raw.

As it turns out, 19 mussels out of 54 had a broken shell, and went straight to the bin. That's 35%, which I feel is beyond unacceptable. I appreciate this can happen, but if your staff member would help me select a decent bag instead of snapping at me, this could have been avoided.

I used to be a regular customer at Eddie's and have been treated alright so far, but today's events left me feeling bitter and defrauded... Will think twice before coming back again.
